Derby County chief executive Tom Glick says the club will not be making more signings until they sell some players.

The Rams did not sign anyone on transfer deadline day after a busy summer, external which saw nine players arrive.

Glick told BBC Radio Derby, external: "We have made no bones about wanting to run the club responsibly.

"The reality is with the half a dozen players we have had trouble moving out we are still paying their wages so we need to work on squaring that off."

Goalkeeper Stephen Bywater, defender Dean Leacock, who are both yet to feature this season, and midfielder Stephen Pearson, who has made just one appearance this season, are three of the club's biggest earners.

Derby had been keen to sign Leicester's Martyn Waghorn, external - a player they have been tracking since January - but he went on loan to Hull City, external.

But Glick said because they have to watch their finances and several new players have yet to play, they did not consider making a fresh move for the speedy striker.

"Some of the new players we have brought in have yet to feature and we need to not forget that," Glick added.

"Nathan Tyson, external - through injury - has not been able to feature and we are excited that he will be back soon."
