Birmingham City's Jack Butland joins Cheltenham on loan

Cheltenham Town have signed Birmingham City goalkeeper Jack Butland on a short-term loan deal.

Bristol-born Butland has been with the Blues since the age of 14 but has yet to make a first-team appearance.

The 18-year-old made his debut for England Under-21s last Thursday in their 6-0 win over Azerbaijan in the European Championship qualifiers.

"It's been going well at Birmingham but like with any young keeper I need games," he told BBC Gloucestershire.

"So we felt there was an opportunity to come here and compete with Scott Brown.

"He's a good goalkeeper, I don't know if I will play or not but I'm here for the competition and a different experience and I'm looking forward to it."

Butland is set to go straight into the squad for their League Two clash with Macclesfield on Saturday.
