Manager Steve Housham blasts 'awful' Gainsborough

Gainsborough Trinity manager Steve Housham blasted his side's performance after they drew 2-2 at AFC Fylde in the FA Cup second qualifying round.

Goals from Ryan Kendall and Darryn Stamp put Trinity in control at 2-0.

But the Coasters, from two divisions below the Blues, earned a replay through Mike Barnes and Richie Allen.

Housham told BBC Lincolnshire: "We took our foot off the pedal. I thought we were awful and we're lucky to still be in the FA Cup."

Trinity, who are third in the Blue Square Bet North, took the lead when Kendall slotted home after 15 minutes.

He turned provider seven minutes later, nodding down Jamie Yates' cross for Stamp to score.

Barnes' long-range effort six minutes before the break reduced the arrears for Evo-Stik First Division North side Fylde, who levelled just after the hour through Allen.

Housham added: "They showed some bite and a bit of battle and they could have won the game.

"Saying that, we should have won the game after being 2-0 up but they were always going to have a never-say-die attitude and came at us. Fortunately we're still in the hat."

The sides will replay their second qualifying round tie at the Northolme at 1945 BST on Tuesday, 4 October with the winners drawn at home to either Frickley Athletic or Harrogate Town in the next round.
