Donald McIntyre resigns as Rangers finance director

McIntyre has been in dispute with new owner Craig Whyte

Donald McIntyre has resigned as Rangers' finance director - five months after being suspended by the Scottish champions.

He remains an employee but is taking advice over a potential claim against Rangers.

McIntyre was suspended by the club following the successful takeover by Craig Whyte and has had no input into their affairs since.

He resigned over his exclusion from matters of corporate governance.

McIntyre, who had also been company secretary and had been finance director since 2006, held senior financial positions within Stakis plc, Hilton Group plc, Hewden Stuart plc and was group financial controller at Macdonald Hotels Limited before joining Rangers.

However, the chartered accountant was suspended by the football club in May along with chief executive Martin Bain.

Chairman Alastair Johnston and director Paul Murray had also left the club after venture capitalist Whyte took control of from Sir David Murray.

Bain resigned his own post in June and announced his intention to sue the club for unfair dismissal.

Whyte recently responded to leaked court documents claiming that Rangers could owe Her Majesty's Revenue and Customs up to £49m.

Questioned about claims that the club could become insolvent as a result of the tax bill, he admitted that it could have serious consequences for the club but insisted he was confident of winning the case.
