'Professional' cup win pleases Gainsborough's Housham

Gainsborough Trinity manager Steve Housham praised his side's performance in their 2-0 FA Cup third qualifying round win over Frickley Athletic.

Second-half goals from Darryn Stamp and Ryan Kendall earned the Blues a trip to AFC Telford United in the next round.

"We knew Frickley would give it their best shot but we dominated once we got going," Housham told BBC Lincolnshire.

"It was a bit edgy, they had a few chances in the first half but overall I thought we did a professional job."

The victory also preserved Trinity's 100% record at the Northolme this season.

Housham added: "I've always said we have to make this place a fortress, make it difficult for teams to get anything against us and long may it continue."

But while Gainsborough progressed in the competition, Grantham Town's FA Cup run came to an end with a 3-2 defeat by Solihull Moors.

The Blue Square Bet North side led 2-0 after half an hour through goals from James Milligan and Richard Walker, but Paul Grimes reduced the arrears before half-time.

The Gingerbreads, who play two divisions below Solihull in the Northern Premier League First Division South, levelled after the break with a goal from Martin Ball but Michael Blackwood grabbed a 71st-minute winner.

Joint-manager Jimmy Albans told BBC Lincolnshire: "We didn't start well and we were like rabbits in the headlights in the first half an hour.

"But we turned it round and got back into the game and at 2-2 I thought we may have had a chance to go on and win it.

"Solihull are a very good side but we've come here and given a good account of ourselves. When you're playing that sort of team and you're still in the game with 10 minutes to go it's a credit to the lads."
