Ipswich Town tie up Aaron Cresswell contract

Cresswell will miss Saturday's trip to Millwall following his sending off in last week's loss to Crystal Palace

Ipswich Town have handed an improved contract to defender Aaron Cresswell, who has signed until 2015 with the option of a further year.

The 21-year-old, who joined Ipswich on a three-year deal from Tranmere in July, has been ever present this term.

"Obviously I'm delighted to have been offered and signed a new contract," he told the club website.

Meanwhile, on-loan midfielder Keith Andrews has told BBC Radio Suffolk he does not want to return to Blackburn.

The 31-year-old, who has scored five goals in 12 appearances for Town, has expressed his desire to remain at Portman Road after his loan deal expires in January and said: "I can't envisage myself going back to Blackburn in any shape or form.

"I know I've got 18 months left on my contract there but I really don't want to be there. I've come here and had a new lease of life here. I'm sure something will get done in January."

Boss Paul Jewell spoke of his desire to hand Cresswell new terms last week, saying: "We want to reward him because he's proved he's a valuable member of the squad."

The left-back, who will miss his first game of the season against Millwall on Saturday as he serves a one-match suspension, added: "I've really enjoyed my time at the club so far and feel that I'm progressing as a player.

"It's been a massive step up, coming here from Tranmere, but fortunately it has gone well so far and hopefully there will be many happy times ahead."
