Walsall have brought in experienced midfielder Mark Wilson on a month's loan from Doncaster Rovers.

Saddlers boss Dean Smith is looking to increase competition for places after a run of only one win in nine matches.

"Mark is an experienced player who knows the game well. He has played a lot of games at Championship level," Smith noted of the 32-year-old.

"I played alongside him very briefly at Sheffield Wednesday and he is a player that I know all about."

Walsall hope to receive clearance to include Wilson in their squad for Saturday's home game against MK Dons.

Wilson started his career with Manchester United before moving to Middlesbrough in 2001.

After numerous loan spells the former England under-21 international tried his luck in the USA playing for FC Dallas.

"He's a good passer of the ball who has the knack of being in the right place at the right time," said Smith.

"He's the type of player who can step straight into the side and do a job, he's been playing regular reserve team football and is champing at the bit to get some competitive action under his belt."
