Hegarty has signed a deal until Boxing Day with Paul Cox's Stags

Mansfield Town have signed winger Nick Hegarty on a short-term contract and Nottingham Forest defender Kieron Freeman on loan.

Hegarty, 25, whose previous clubs include Grimsby and St Mirren, will remain with the Stags until at least 26 December after a successful trial.

"The set up and the training ground are good," Hegarty told the club website. "It seems a really positive place.

Meanwhile 19-year-old Freeman has joined on a month's loan.

Hegarty, who began his career as a junior at near-neighbours Nottingham Forest but made his professional bow at Grimsby, has made more than 100 appearances in all competitions.

Freeman was recently called up to the Wales under-21 squad for the European Championship qualifier against Armenia this month, external, and made his first-team debut in Carling Cup against Wycombe in August.
