Macclesfield strolled into the second round of the FA Cup with a comprehensive win at Ryman League Premier side East Thurrock.

The hosts dominated the early exchanges but fell behind after Carl Tremarco lashed in Colin Daniel's pass.

The visitors doubled the lead when Ross Draper's shot deflected onto the bar and Matt Hamshaw headed in the rebound.

Sam Collins missed a golden chance for the Essex club before George Donnelly wrapped up Macc's win from 18 yards.

East Thurrock lacked end product - Coventry

East Thurrock United manager John Coventry told BBC Essex:

"We've been really good today, and I've said to my lot 'you didn't get the result you deserved', and I don't think they did.

"We are bright and lively in the last third and today perhaps not with that end product we needed.

"I didn't think we played so well second half as we did first. We got a bit ragged but then you are chasing the game."

Macclesfield Town manager Gary Simpson told BBC Radio Manchester:

Simpson relieved to win 'tricky tie'

"They caused us a hell of a lot of problems by getting the ball and putting it in behind us and we were found wanting to be fair.

"Second-half we changed the tactics, we did to them what they'd been doing to us, we created opportunities and took them.

"We've got through a tricky tie away from home, we're in the hat and I'm pleased for the chairman as it's a few more quid in the coffers for him."
