Gillingham's Jack Payne signs a two-year extension

Gillingham midfielder Jack Payne has signed a new contract keeping him at the club until the summer of 2015.

The 19-year-old, who has scored two goals this season, has been a regular fixture in the Gills starting XI since making his debut in 2008.

Manager Andy Hessenthaler told the club website, external: "This is absolutely fantastic news for the club.

"There are exciting times ahead, Jack is a local lad who has a hunger and desire to do well."

Earlier this week Payne's Gillingham team-mate Danny Kedwell told BBC Radio Kent that the teenager is capable of playing at a much higher level than League Two, external.

Payne's two goals this season, against Barnet and Bournemouth, were both long range efforts.

Hessenthaler added: "He's a player who wants to learn, he wants to get better every day."
