Bournemouth have failed in a bid to sign Swindon Town midfielder Matt Ritchie on loan.

The Cherries, who offered £400,000 to sign Ritchie permanently in January, have had an initial offer for the 22-year-old turned down by Swindon.

Ritchie began his career at Cherries' South Coast neighbours Portsmouth but made just 10 appearances.

He has had loan spells at Dagenham & Redbridge and Notts County before joining Swindon permanently in 2011.

Ritchie has six goals from 23 appearances for the Robins this season.
