Swansea City's bid accepted for Cliftonville striker Rory Donnelly

Swansea City are closing in on signing Rory Donnelly after having an improved bid accepted for the Northern Ireland under-21 international striker.

The 19-year-old is Cliftonville's 17-goal top-scorer in the Irish Premiership and has attracted interest from a number of Premier League clubs.

Swans boss Brendan Rodgers watched Donnelly play in Cliftonville's County Antrim Shield win over Glentoran.

Swansea's second offer, believed to be around £100,000, has been accepted.

"I'm pleased to say we now have a written agreement with Cliftonville over the possible transfer of Rory Donnelly," said Swansea chairman Huw Jenkins.

"We are yet to finalise terms with the player, that's the next process."

Donnelly hopes to agree terms with the Premier League club so he will be able to sign in the January transfer window.

He has been in prolific form this season and already has three hat-tricks to his name, so will bolster a Swansea attack that has scored 16 goals in 15 Premier League games this season.

Donnelly had been attracting interest from several clubs with League One Brentford having also made a bid.

Although the north Belfast club would gain financially from a deal, the loss of the talented Donnelly would be a blow to their Premiership title hopes.
