Hull will let Paul McShane leave to boost Euro chances

Hull City will allow Paul McShane to leave in January if it will improve his chances of playing at Euro 2012.

The Republic of Ireland international has yet to feature this season despite fully recovering from a calf injury.

Caretaker manager Nick Barmby told BBC Radio Humberside: "If it comes to January and he's not playing we wouldn't stand in a player's way of playing at a European Championship.

"We wouldn't want to lose him but I wouldn't do that to a player."

But Barmby added: "However, in football, you've seen it in the past where someone gets injured and Paul gets back in and plays well then he'd obviously stay in the team."

McShane has 26 caps for Ireland and was named in the squad for the Euro 2012 play-off ties with Estonia, but did not feature.

He last played for the national side in July when he captained the team in a 2-0 win over Italy.

The former Manchester United defender has started only league game for Hull in 2011 and had a loan spell with Barnsley last season.
