Blackburn centre-back Scott Dann has been ruled out for six weeks with a groin injury.

The 24-year-old, a 2-1 defeat by West Brom at Ewood Park.

"He will have groin surgery," said manager Steve Kean, who is already missing several players.

"We have to face it up and crack on, although that is a tough one to take."

He added: "When you add that to Gael Givet, Ryan Nelsen and Michel Salgado, we are losing defenders, which is tough."

The news comes as a further blow to Kean, who is under growing pressure from fans and the media with Blackburn second bottom of the Premier League.

They face bottom club Bolton at Ewood Park on Tuesday, a match that could prove pivotal to Kean's survival.

Kean met with the club's owners, Venky's, on Sunday, after which he insisted his job is not under threat.

Former Spanish international defender Salgado will be allowed to leave the club in January after talks took place in Madrid with the player's representative.

"Michel won't be here next season," said Kean. "If there is an opportunity for him to find another solution in this window that is something we would look at.

"(It is) out of respect for the player to give him the heads up that this will be his last season."

Salgado has played 73 matches for Rovers since joining in 2009 from Real Madrid.
