Fleetwood Town have signed midfielder Danny Rose from fellow Blue Square Bet Premier side Newport County for an undisclosed fee.

The 23-year-old has agreed personal terms with the Highbury club and will officially join on 1 January 2012.

The former Manchester United reserve team captain joined Newport in 2008 from Oxford United.

He has scored 11 goals for the Exiles this season including a penalty in a 4-1 win at Fleetwood in October, external.

The Bristol-born player, who has represented the England C side spent a week's trial at Championship club Crystal Palace in October.

League Two side Aldershot Town, managed by former County boss Dean Holdsworth, were also known to be interested in the player.

"Town have beaten off several interested league clubs to his signature and are delighted that Danny has chosen to further his career at Highbury," Fleetwood Town said in a statement on the club's website.

Exiles chairman Chris Blight said: "He's been a wonderful servant to Newport County.

"We've been delighted he's been with us these years and all we can do is wish him every success up at Fleetwood, who I can see are destined to go a lot higher than the division that they are in at the moment."
