Rochdale have signed former Nottingham Forest defender Neill Byrne on an 18-month deal.

The 18-year-old was released by Forest in December and had a trial at Spotland, scoring in a reserve game against Manchester City.

He could make his debut against fellow managerless side Preston North End at home on Monday.

Meanwhile, Matthew Barnes-Homer has ended his loan spell at Rochdale early and been released by parent club Luton.
