Maaloul went against the wishes of the club president by stepping down as coach

African Champions League winners Esperance of Tunisia are looking for a new coach following the resignation of Nabil Maaloul.

He first considered leaving on Monday but was persuaded to reconsider his future after a meeting with club president Hamdi Meddeb.

Maaloul eventually decided to quit on Tuesday, and is set to follow a career in television.

Larbi Zouaoui has taken over as interim coach as they search for a replacement.

Maaloul led Esperance to the African Champions League title, external with victory over Morocco's Wydad Casablanca.

They also went to the Club World Cup in Japan, where they lost both their games to finish sixth, external.

Esperance are currently 11th in the Tunisian league, 15 points behind leaders Club Bizertin with four games in hand.
