Peterborough United defender Scott Wootton has returned to parent club Manchester United after having his loan spell terminated.

The 20-year-old, who joined Posh in the summer and went on to feature 14 times, was due to be at London Road until the end of the season.

Boss Darren Ferguson told the club website, external: "It is a joint decision to be honest.

"I had a chat with Scott and he felt he wasn't really playing enough games."

He added: "So I was happy to let him go back to Old Trafford."

Wootton arrived at Peterborough alongside United team-mate Ryan Tunnicliffe, who is still with the Championship club.

He played the first 45 minutes of Saturday's 2-1 loss to Brighton before being replaced by captain Grant McCann.
