Motherwell secure Henrik Ojamaa on a long-term contract

Ojamaa has scored four goals in the last five matches for Motherwell

Motherwell's Henrik Ojamaa has signed a two-and-a-half year contract after making an instant impression since joining the club last month.

The 20-year-old had intially been signed until the summer after leaving Finnish top-flight club RoPS.

But four goals in five games convinced Well manager Stuart McCall to extend the Estonia Under-21 star's stay.

"I was impressed with what I saw here, the kind of football they play, the players and the manager," said Ojamaa.

And, talking to BBC Radio Scotland's Sportsound, he added: "I've settled in really well. Everybody has been really great to me and taught me a lot.

"He [Stuart McCall] is a great manager. He is a big part of why I signed here in the first place and why I extended my deal.

"With his experience he can definitely help me develop as a player."

Ojamaa started his career with Derby County, although his only senior appearances in the UK came during a loan spell at Stafford Rangers.

He switched to German outfit Alemannia Aachen, who subsequently loaned him to Fortuna Sittard in the Netherlands before his move to RoPS last year.

After Ojamaa's two goals helped Well to a 3-2 win over St Johnstone on Saturday, Fir Park manager McCall said: "When we brought Henrik in, the one thing that impressed me was his hunger, his desire and keenness to learn.

"He's got infectious enthusiasm."

Despite the flying start to his Scottish football career, Ojamaa remains a modest figure.

Asked about his impressive pace, he told BBC Scotland: "It is something I have been working on but there is always room for improvement."

And his goalscoring feats he put down to "a mixture of me coming in and being a different player and the opposition not knowing much about me and also the other players playing me in to some very good positions".

McCall said on Thursday: "We are pleased to have it finally tied up.

"I must pay tribute to the chief executive, Leeann Dempster, for the amount of hard work she has put in both with Henrik and his representatives.

"The lad has put himself in the shop window a bit and there was a sniff of interest already from elsewhere but we were always hopeful he would sign with the club.

"He has said how much he enjoys it at the club and we like having him around.

"He can continue to develop here, become a better player and hopefully he'll play a big part from now until the end of the season and beyond."
