Newcastle United midfielder Haris Vuckic has joined Cardiff City on an initial one-month loan deal

Vuckic is expected to formally complete a temporary move to the Bluebirds on Friday in time for Saturday's Championship game at Leicester.

The Slovenian Under-21 international joined Newcastle from NK Domzale in January 2009.

"He's someone that I know pretty well. He's someone that I have tracked," said Cardiff City manager Malky Mackay.

"The timing was right but he had been on the radar a while.

"He's a central player, left-footed, likes to get forward in midfield.

"He's been in and around the national [Slovenia] squad and in time he will be part of the national [squad."

Vuckic has made five appearances for Newcastle this season.

He will be available for all of Cardiff's Championship games up to an including the trip to Bristol City on 10 March.

However Vuckic will be ineligible for the Carling Cup final against Liverpool at Wembley on 25 February.

Vuckic made a substitutes appearance for Newcastle in their second round win at Scunthorpe in August.
