Wrexham have signed former Liverpool defender Stephen Wright until the end of the season.

The Dragons hope to conclude the necessary paperwork for the 32-year-old Wright to play in Saturday's Blue Square Bet Premier match at Kettering.

Wright was released by League One side Hartlepool in January after making 11 appearances this season, the last of which came in November.

An Achilles injury limited his involvement while at Hartlepool.

He continued to train with the club after his contract was terminated and Wrexham have drafted him in as cover for defender Dan Alfei, who has picked up a hamstring injury.

Merseyside-born Wright made 21 appearances for Liverpool, scoring his only goal in a Champions League victory over Borussia Dortmund in 2001.

He joined Sunderland for £3m in 2002, external, going on to make over 100 appearances for the Black Cats.

Spells at Stoke City, Coventry and Brentford followed before joining Hartlepool on a short-term deal in 2011.
