Gary Simpson leaves Macclesfield

Macclesfield Town have parted company with manager Gary Simpson after a run of 16 games without a win.

The Silkmen are only outside the Football League relegation zone on goal difference following the 2-0 defeat at bottom club Dagenham & Redbridge.

Former assistant boss Simpson took over in March 2010 following the death of Keith Alexander.

"It is with great regret that we've had to make this decision," chairman Mike Rance told the club website.

"We've been through an immense amount together over the last two years and we owe Gary a real debt of gratitude for the dignity and commitment he has shown through a difficult time."

The League Two club say they will make an announcement about the "immediate future as soon as possible".

The 52-year-old former Gainsborough Trinity player-manager and Lincoln caretaker boss led the Silkmen to 15th last season, earning him a two-year deal.
