Harrogate Town loss stuns boss Simon Weaver

Harrogate Town manager Simon Weaver believes that his side's display in the defeat at Guiseley was good enough to have earned them at least a point.

Harrogate took the lead with a goal from Will Turl but lost 2-1 after Jason Price and Simon Ainge scored second-half goals for Guiseley.

Weaver told BBC Radio York: "It was a really good performance. There's no way on earth we deserved to lose tonight.

"We created the lion's share of chances in the game. It's not really sunk in."

He added: "We were very dangerous from set-pieces and scored from one.

"We switched off just after half time and came away with nothing."

The result leaves Harrogate Town in 16th place in the Blue Square Bet South table while Guiseley are third.

Harrogate face Workington in their next game and Weaver is confident their form will be rewarded with points as they try to make certain their survival in the league.

He continued: "I think we should be really strong and aggressive in the challenge.

"When we get the ball down and play we're as clever as anyone and I just think in the final third, because there's a few new faces, perhaps they believe a little bit more when they've got it up there.

"If we get that added belief I don't think we're that far off from giving someone a good hiding.

"Results dictate. But it's important from a psychological point of view we don't knock the lads too much because we can exhaust them.

"After such a good performance to hammer them would be counter-productive.

"They deserve a pat on the back."
