Full-back David van Zanten has signed a one-year extension to his contract with St Mirren.

The 29-year-old Irishman is in his second spell with the Buddies having returned after playing for Hibernian, Morton and Hamilton Adademical.

Van Zanten said on Twitter: "Signed a new contract with the Buddies today for another year. Over the moon."

He had first joined St Mirren in 2003 after being released by Celtic without having made a first-team appearance.

Van Zanten helped the Paisley club win promotion to the Scottish Premier League in 2006 but left for Hibs in summer 2008.

After a disappointing time at Easter Road, he was released the following September.

He signed a short-term deal with Morton but left the Division One club for a return to the SPL with Hamilton in January 2010.

Van Zanten returned to St Mirren Park that June, becoming present manager Danny Lennon's first signing.
