Martin Ling hails Torquay's four League Two nominations

Torquay United boss Martin Ling says getting four players in the PFA's League Two Team of the Year is a "phenomenal achievement".

Goalkeeper Bobby Olejnik, left-back Kevin Nicholson and midfielders Eunan O'Kane and Lee Mansell were all picked in the League Two XI.

Only Manchester City and Charlton Athletic had similar numbers in their respective league's teams.

"It is a phenomenal achievement for the club," Ling said.

"It is a brilliant representation of us as a football club.

"I was sat there with [coaches] Shaun Taylor, Kenny Veysey and Damian Davey at the ceremony last night, and we were four very proud men.

"The fact Manchester City had four and they are sitting second in the Premier League, Charlton had four and they are already promoted from League One, sums up what other clubs think of us," Ling added.

And the Torquay boss says it shows how highly-regarded Torquay's efforts have been by their fellow footballers.

"I was voted in the Team of the Year back in 1999 and Shaun Taylor has been in it two or three times, and we both agree it is a medal sitting proudly at home because it is voted by players that you play against.

"I've said many times that I see Bobby as the number one keeper in the bottom two leagues.

"Kevin Nicholson has been a solid defender, who gives us plenty going forward.

"Eunan, as I've also said before, is key to us passing the ball well and Manse is the heartbeat to our team."

Skipper Mansell has scored 13 goals this season having previously only scored six since joining the Gulls in the summer of 2006, while Olejnik has kept 20 clean sheets since arriving at Plainmoor in the summer.
