Preston North End have agreed deals to sign out-of-contract Shrewsbury duo Nicky Wroe and Shane Cansdell-Sherriff.

After rejecting offers from Shrewsbury, who finished second in League Two, the pair have agreed two-year contracts at Deepdale, effective from 1 July.

Both players featured prominently in Town's promotion campaign last season, starting 67 league games between them.

Tranmere captain John Welsh became manager Graham Westley's first summer signing on Monday.

Midfielder Wroe, 26, began his career at Barnsley and went on to play for Bury, Hamilton and York before joining Shrewsbury from Torquay in January 2011.

Sydney-born defender Cansdell-Sherriff spent four years in Shropshire, making 168 appearances for the club.

"I just feel after four years I need a new challenge," the 29-year-old Aussie told BBC Shropshire.

"Shrewsbury's been my home for so long but you've got to make these tough decisions. Sometimes you just need a change."
