Exeter City boss Paul Tisdale says there is a "good chance" that director of football Steve Perryman will return to work after having heart surgery.

The 60-year-old was taken ill at City's last match of the season and spent two weeks in intensive care.

But the former Tottenham and England player has now left hospital and is recuperating at home.

"There's a good chance that at some point he'll make a return to work," Tisdale told BBC South West Sport.

"I think we're more and more confident there'll be a point when he does that."

Tisdale says the former Brentford and Watford manager's work and influence around the club has been missed.

He has been with City since 2003 and served as caretaker manager in the period immediately before Tisdale's predecessor, Alex Inglethorpe, was appointed in 2004.

"He's a very good friend of mine who I've worked with everyday for six years, so I'm very, very pleased to see him making a recovery.

"We all know what he's been through in the last month and how serious a situation he was in and we're so happy that he's making progress.

"His health is the most important thing, he's making good progress and he's had some very good care.

"We're looking forward to seeing him back at the Cat and Fiddle training ground and at St James Park in the not too distant future."
