Shrewsbury Town have completed the signings of Luke Summerfield from Cheltenham Town and Rob Purdie from Hereford United.

Both players were out of contract at their respective clubs at the end of last season.

Midfielder Summerfield, 24, the son of former Shrewsbury midfielder and coach Kevin, leaves Cheltenham after only a year at Whaddon Road.

Utility man Purdie, 29, has brought to an end his second spell with the Bulls.

He opted to rejoin Shrewsbury boss Graham Turner, who he played under at Edgar Street, following Hereford's relegation from the Football League.

Former Plymouth Argyle man Summerfield had been in negotiations about extending his deal with the Robins but openly expressed his desire to play at a higher level.

Shrewsbury secured automatic promotion to League One last season while Cheltenham lost out in the League Two play-off final to Crewe.
