Accrington sign ex-Bolton defender Tom Eckersley

Former Bolton Wanderers defender Tom Eckersley has agreed a one-year contract with Accrington following a trial at the Crown Ground.

Centre-back Eckersley was one of 15 players allowed to leave Bolton in the summer after they were relegated from the Premier League in May.

"I'm over the moon to sign," the 20-year-old told the club website.

"I came here on trial a couple of weeks ago looking for a contract and that's what I've done."

Stanley boss Paul Cook added: "Tom has impressed us in pre-season and now we're looking for him to continue improving.

"We have good competition in the centre of defence and that's a good thing for the team."
