Stevenage have signed forward Lucas Akins from Tranmere Rovers for an undisclosed fee.

The 23-year-old, who came through Huddersfield Town's youth system, has agreed a three-year contract.

Manager Gary Smith said: "It's a great signing for us; he's an athletic player and adds some versatility to our squad which is important.

"He's got a bright future ahead and he's already playing some exceptional football, we saw that last season."

Akins, who normally plays in wide positions, joined Scottish side Hamilton Academical in 2008 before spending time at Northwich Victoria and Partick Thistle on loan prior to his move to Tranmere in August 2010.

He made 87 appearances for the Prenton Park club, scoring seven goals.
