Bournemouth are set to complete the double signing of midfielder Richard Hughes and defender Jonathan Meades.

Former Pompey player Hughes, 33, is set to be unveiled on Wednesday as a Cherries player, alongside Wales Under-21 defender Meades, with Paul Groves confirming their arrivals on Tuesday.

"Richard gives us an option to bring in an intelligent player who is a holding midfielder," Groves told BBC Solent.

"He gives us balance and has played at the top level which shows his quality."

Hughes, who also spent four years at Bournemouth previously in his career, was released by Pompey in 2011. He has not played a competitive game since their 3-3 draw with Leeds on 28 December 2010.

Meades, 20, failed to make the grade at Cardiff City and is expected to provide cover for Charlie Daniels.
