Oxford United have signed former Cardiff defender Alex Evans on non-contract terms.

Evans, 19, came through Cardiff's youth set-up, although his own appearance for the Bluebirds was against Oxford in the League Cup a year ago.

The Welsh centre-back has been training with United in pre-season and comes in as cover for the injured Harry Worley.

"Harry is still a couple of weeks away from being available," said Oxford United boss Chris Wilder.

"He has been out for a long time so there is no point rushing the final stages of his recovery, so Alex will come in and help us out and we will take it from there."

Evans says he is relishing the opportunity to prove himself and earn a full-time contract.

"I've really enjoyed my time here, it's a great set-up and the lads have made me feel very welcome," he said.

"Now I have a little longer to show what I can do and hopefully help the team and impress."
