Exeter City defender Steve Tully says he is confident that the experienced players his team have signed will help them be successful in League Two.

Tully, 31, is Exeter's longest-serving player and has seen the club rise from the Conference to League One, before last season's relegation to League Two.

"Last season I think we needed a few more experienced players," Tully said.

"This season we've managed to bring a lot more in who've been there and done it and that can only help the team.

"We've also got a great lot of youngsters coming through so there's a great blend to the squad," Tully added to BBC South West.

City have brought in the likes of promoting a number of youth team players.

And Tully says that the squad is focused on trying to bounce straight back into League One after relegation.

"Last season we didn't deserve to stay up and we got what we deserved.

"This season we want to put it right, we want to start well and we're looking forward to the new season.

"The whole aim for the football club is to be a League One football club again, if we can do that this season straight away then brilliant."

And with Torquay United, Plymouth Argyle, Bristol Rovers and Cheltenham Town all in the same league, Tully feels those derby games against their neighbours will be crucial to how well they fare.

"I think the local derbies are going to be brilliant this season and I think if you finish at the top of that pile you're going to be up there challenging.

"Everybody wants to do well in local derives, they're all big games and we look forward to them."
