Tom Flanagan is pleased with how his loan spell at Gillingham has started.

The 20-year-old defender, on loan from MK Dons until January, has started both of the Kent club's games this season.

He told BBC Radio Kent: "I came here to try and force my way into the team. They signed a few players at Milton Keynes and I was side-lined a bit.

"Maybe it was because of my age and lack of experience. I took the opportunity with both hands and I'm glad I've done it."

He added: "I'm here to further my education and learn to play different ways."

The Gills began their League Two campaign with a 3-1 win over Bradford, and Flanagan is optimistic over their chances for the season.

"We've got a great team shape and if we can keep it tight at the back we're going to win a lot of games," he continued.

"The play-offs, at a minimum, is what we've set as a target. It's definitely possible."
