Yann Kermorgant says confidence in his own ability has helped him revive his career at Charlton Athletic.

The French striker was booed by fans of old club Leicester City on Tuesday but scored the winner in the 2-1 victory over the Foxes.

He told BBC London 94.9: "Confidence makes a difference. At Leicester I never had my chance and it's difficult when you don't play a lot of games.

"If you're not involved in the team you can't gain confidence and play well."

He added: "That's what happened at Leicester."

Kermorgant only scored once in 25 matches for Leicester in the 2009-10 season, with the majority of those appearances coming from the substitutes' bench.

The 30-year-old is remembered by the club's fans for missing a penalty in their Championship play-off semi-final defeat by Cardiff., external

After he spent the following season on loan at French Ligue 1 side Arles-Avignon, Charlton boss Chris Powell brought him to the Valley on a free transfer last summer.

Kermorgant went on to hit 12 goals in 36 league games as the Addicks went on to lift the League One title.

"Here it's different because the gaffer [Powell] wanted to bring me here and respects me," Kermorgant continued.

"He knew me from training and I knew why he wanted to bring me.

"It makes a big difference for me. He's a man I can trust.

"I can show everybody I can play in the Championship."
