Ki Sung-Yueng signing shows Swansea 'intent' - Leon Britton

Leon Britton says the signing of Ki Sung-Yueng shows Swansea's ambition to establish themselves as a Premier League club.

Swansea City have broken their transfer record to sign Ki from Celtic

The South Korean has signed a three-year contract with the Swans.

"We all want to stay in the Premier League and it shows the intentions of the club to be spending five or six million on one player," Britton said.

The 23-year-old has impressed since joining Celtic in 2010 and was part of the South Korea side which won an Olympic bronze medal at London 2012.

And midfielder Britton believes the acquisition of Ki will further strengthen Swansea's squad.

"He's going to add great competition to places in midfield," Britton said. "It's great that there's competition for places.

"He looks a very good player. We played Celtic in pre-season last summer and I remember being impressed with him in midfield.

"We've always been strong in that department so it's great to see another quality player coming into the football club.

"It's great to be playing with quality players - that's what you want."

While Ki is on the verge of joining Swansea, one player who has been linked with a move away from the Liberty Stadium is winger Scott Sinclair.

The 23-year-old has refused to sign a new contract with the Swans and coach Alan Curtis revealed the Team GB player could soon be on his way to Manchester City.

"Scotty's been very important for us over the last two or three seasons. He's been fantastic for us," Britton said.

"Obviously he's got his own situation with his contract only having a year left. I've been in that situation myself.

"It's difficult as a player to know what to do. Scotty's got a decision to make if's the clubs agree a fee.

"If he does stay we'll be delighted because we're going to keep a fantastic player."
