Joey Barton's Marseille loan back on - QPR boss Mark Hughes

Joey Barton's loan move from Queens Park Rangers to Marseille could be back on, according to Rangers manager Mark Hughes.

Barton had earlier written on Twitter: "Doesn't look like this Marseille thing is going to happen now."

But Hughes said: "The Marseille deal may not be dead in the water."

Barton's agent Willie Mackay also believes a deal involving Marseille midfielder Stephane Mbia moving to Loftus Road could be reignited.

"I think you will find that maybe a deal will happen on Wednesday, with Joey flying out to Marseille and Mbia arriving at QPR," he said.

Mackay told BBC Radio 5 live there had been developments between QPR chairman Tony Fernandes and Vincent Labrune, the president of Marseille.

Speaking after his side's 3-0 Capital One Cup victory over Walsall, Hughes added: "We might be able to get a solution for everybody. This option has attracted Joey's enthusiasm so hopefully it is concluded."

Barton, 29, is currently serving a 12-match ban after being sent off against Manchester City on the final day of last season, and he was also fined six weeks' wages and stripped of the captaincy by Hughes.

Barton spent a week training with League Two side Fleetwood Town after he was left behind while Rangers toured Malaysia in pre-season.
