Ipswich will not be signing Southend defender Bilel Mohsni after he refused an extended trial at Portman Road.
The 24-year-old Frenchman wants to leave Southend and refused to return to the club after the summer break.
He arrived at Ipswich after an earlier trial at West Ham and scored against Cardiff in a reserve game.
"He did OK but when we asked him to stay another week, he didn't want to do that and he's gone back to Paris," boss Paul Jewell told BBC Radio Suffolk.
Ipswich have also been taking a look at 6ft 5ins centre-back Kevin Pezzoni, who recently quit Cologne after being attacked by a group of fans outside his home in the German city., external
"He's been training with us or for a week and we know we've got to bring a centre-half in to push Tommy (Smith) and Luke Chambers - and that's what we're going to endeavour to do," added Jewell.
"It's one area we're keen to strengthen and made a few (more) inquiries this week - we're aware we're very light in that area."
