Crewe hope to extend Arsenal teenager Chuks Aneke's loan

Crewe boss Steve Davis hopes to extend Chuks Aneke's loan, despite the Arsenal midfielder having so far had little more than 90 minutes of football.

After one substitute appearance, the 19-year-old was sent off on his first start and is serving a three-match ban.

Davis told BBC Radio Stoke: "I'll be speaking to [assistant boss] Steve Bould at Arsenal to see if we can keep it going for another month.

"He feels comfortable in this company, he's enjoying it and wants to stay."

Once he has completed his three-game suspension at MK Dons on Saturday, Aneke is due to return to action for next Tuesday night's home game against Oldham, after which his future is open-ended, assuming Arsenal are happy for him to stay on.

"There is no timescale on youth loans," said Davis. "They can stop as long as we want to have him and he wants to stay.

"And what I've seen so far suggests that he's going to be a good addition who can only get better... as long as he stays on the pitch."

Aneke's continued stay at Gresty Road, coupled with the return to fitness of striker Mathias Pogba, leaves Davis happy with his attacking options, even in the wake of the Alex having now been linked with Peterborough United's Emile Sinclair.

"I've been offered a couple of players," admits Davis. "One of them would have been of great interest. But I couldn't have guaranteed him playing.

"We've got got our own two, AJ Leitch-Smith and Max Clayton, as well as Mathias Pogba and Chuks Aneke coming back.

"And young Ryan Colclough did well from the bench on Saturday."
