Derry City face a trip to Shelbourne for a midweek replay after Sunday's FAI Cup semi-final at the Brandywell ended in a 1-1 draw.

Shelbourne took the lead in the fifth minute when skipper David Cassidy curled a sweet right-foot finish over Derry keeper Gerard Doherty.

Shels keeper Chris Bennion did superbly to turn away a spectacular long-range volley from Patrick McEleney.

Home striker David McDaid headed the equaliser in the 58th minute.

Derry City manager Declan Devine gives his reaction to the 1-1 draw with Shelbourne in the FAI Cup semi-final.

McDaid ghosted in to meet Dermot McCaffrey's floated cross and the finish went in off keeper Bennion and the post before crossing the line.

It made McDaid Derry's top scorer this season with 15, four of them in the cup.

Derry defender Simon Madden went closest to a winner when his 80th-minute first-time volley was well saved by Bennion at the expense of a corner.

Before the equaliser, Derry defender Stewart Greacen had a goal disallowed for a foul on the keeper.

Candystripes manager Declan Devine will be happier with his side's display in the second half, but disappointed they did not get the job done at their own ground.

The replay is at Tolka Park in Dublin on Wednesday, 10 October.

"I felt we should have won the game, but at half-time I would have taken staying in the cup," said Devine.

"I was happy with the response in coming from behind.

"Now we will go to Tolka Park and give a good account of ourselves.

"We have won there before and cup semi-finals are all about who turns up on the day."
