Steven Naismith will miss Scotland's next two World Cup qualifiers after receiving a ban for an elbow incident.

The off-the-ball incident occurred when Naismith clashed with Serbia's Srdan Mijailovic in the qualifier at Hampden on 8 September.

Naismith will be unavailable for the away games against Wales and Belgium.

Scotland manager Craig Levein said it was "disappointing" to lose a player who had been in excellent form this season.

Levein added that Naismith had been "very honest and professional" throughout the disciplinary process.

"We named a 25-man squad earlier this week to compensate for any potential suspension, which has now been confirmed, and I am confident we have enough strength in that department to offset the loss of a player who has been in excellent form so far this season."
