Torquay 3-1 Accrington

Rene Howe scored his ninth goal of the season as Torquay returned to winning ways against Accrington.

Howe netted for the sixth time in six league games, converting from the spot after Michael Liddle's handball.

Padraig Amond's header momentarily brought the visitors level, but Billy Bodin nodded fellow Welshman Nathan Craig's cross home two minutes later.

And captain Lee Mansell's far-post header from Kevin Nicholson's corner sealed the points for the Gulls.

Torquay United manager Martin Ling told BBC Radio Devon:

Three goals not enough for Ling

"I think it was a thoroughly deserved three points. We should've won by a lot more, we had six one-on-ones with their goalkeeper and we missed them all.

"I didn't see the penalty, but I spoke to the bench and they all said 'yeah'. When Rene steps up there he's coolness personified, you know he's going to score.

"You could smell the equaliser coming.

"I think overall it was an eight out of ten performance and we had eight or nine players out there performing at their maximum and if we do that we are a test for anyone in this league."
