Regular games helping Gillingham loanee Tom Flanagan

Gillingham defender Tom Flanagan says a run of games has helped him settle into his loan spell at Priestfield.

The 20-year-old, who is on loan from MK Dons until until the end of January, has made 11 appearances for the Gills.

He told BBC Radio Kent: "I like a big run of games. Consistency is a really big thing when you're a defender.

"You need to play your way into a loan. You can't go hell for leather from the start. The way you get consistent is by playing more."

The centre-back added: "I've moved down and am nice and close. I'm enjoying the place and fully committed to it.

"When it comes to January we'll sit down with everybody we need to sit down with.

"We'll find out what happens but it will be down to the two clubs at the end of the day."

Starting with the visit of Burton on Saturday, the League Two leaders face three games in the space of a week.

Flanagan is hoping he can keep his place in Martin Allen's side during that run.

"As long as you know within yourself that you are fit, you want to play," he said.

"It's my personality as well.

"If we were playing against a lower league team in the FA Cup and the manager said he was going to rest me, I'd say 'I'd rather you rest someone else'.

"I like to get as many games as possible under my belt."
