Clovis Kamdjo's late strike saw off Torquay and moved Barnet off the bottom of League Two.
The Cameroon defender scored after Jake Hyde's run to extend the Bees' unbeaten league run to four matches.
Billy Bodin missed three good opportunities for Torquay, while Lee Mansell was denied by a brilliant save from home goalkeeper Graham Stack.
Anthony Edgar had earlier wasted a chance for Barnet before Kamdjo scored from inside the area to seal the win.
