Gateshead 2-0 Alfreton Town

  • Published

Liam Hatch scored one and made another as Gateshead beat Alfreton to keep in touch with the Blue Square Bet Premier play-off places.

Hatch struck the opener in the fifth minute as he lashed home Lee Bullock's left-wing cross.

He then turned provider and sent in Josh Gillies, who fired into the bottom corner to make it 2-0.

Alfreton rarely threatened but their best chance fell to Danny Meadows, but he pulled his shot wide.

VIEWS FROM THE DRESSING ROOM

Alfreton Town manager Nicky Law told BBC Sport:

"It was two poor pieces of defending from us, but we still had chances on the counter-attack in the first half. Their first goal was a basic goal.

"In the second half we had to be brave and we have to want the ball, and I think a few did that and, if I am honest, a few shirked it. You can see the ones that want the ball and want to play.

"We are disappointed we didn't get anything out of the game and we failed to defend on two occasions. They took their chances and we didn't. It was scrappy game but both teams tried to get the ball down and play."
