Alfreton toppled Blue Square Bet Premier leaders Newport County in dramatic fashion as they won only their second home game of the season.
Nathan Arnold drilled home in the sixth minute and Paul Clayton soon headed home a second.
Michael Smith replied for Newport before Dan Bradley's 45th-minute penalty for the hosts.
Aaron O'Connor struck twice for Newport either side of the second Clayton goal that ensured Alfreton's win.
VIEWS FROM THE DRESSING ROOM
Alfreton Town manager Nicky Law:
"Credit to the players, they've ground a great result out. It's an important three points. We did it the hard way, but I thought it was a great performance.
"You give Newport credit for keep going at us, but we're disappointed with the three goals we've given away. It should have been a lot more comfortable than that.
"We've had a poor week training-wise, but we've had three tough games, two great results and one not-so-great result, but I can't give the players enough credit.
"They've gone out from the first whistle, they've set into the team that's top of the league and without being disrespectful, I think we were comfortable winners."
Newport County manager Justin Edinburgh told BBC Radio Wales:
"[We have] loads of complaints.
"The first two goals - or certainly the first and third goals - first one was offside, third one was never a penalty.
"So yes, plenty of complaints, although we started slowly and gave ourselves an uphill task, major decisions have gone against us."
