Luke Summerfield hit his first league goal for Shrewsbury to help them to victory over in-form Crewe Alexandra.

Marvin Morgan forced two routine saves from Alex goalkeeper Alan Martin, before turning provider for Summerfield to head home the only goal of the game.

Morgan was denied after the break by a fine save from Martin after being set free by Luke Rodgers.

Crewe had chances to level but Chris Weale saved from Lauri Dalla Valle and Max Clayton hooked a volley off target.

Shrewsbury Town manager Graham Turner told BBC Radio Shropshire:

"We were desperate for that victory, and it gives us plenty of confidence going into Tuesday's match with MK Dons.

"We broke quite well but you could tell there was anxiety when defending in our own box."
