Wycombe player-manger Gareth Ainsworth came off the bench to give his side victory over fellow strugglers Bristol Rovers.

The hosts took the lead when Joel Grant fired past Pirates keeper Sam Walker.

David Clarkson should have equalised for the visitors but he headed over from Michael Smith's inviting cross.

Ainsworth won it with a diving header before Rovers defender Michael Lund was sent off in the final minute for a foul on Stuart Lewis.

We must stand up to critics - McGhee

Bristol Rovers manager Mark McGhee told BBC Radio Bristol:

"I've said to the boys that the supporters we have here will already be on the forums and tweeting, doing all the stuff they do, and they'll be questioning the team, me and Shaun (assistant Shaun North) and our relationship with the team.

"The players are going to have to face that. They're going to have to have the bottle to go out there next week and go again.

"They're going to have to go there and go some way to putting today to bed."
