Cambridge hammered Gateshead to leapfrog the Tynesiders in the Blue Square Bet Premier table.

Tom Shaw fired home from inside the box inside 15 minutes, while team-mate Lee Bullock had a header deemed not to have crossed the line.

Josh Coulson extended the lead after the break from a corner, and the visitors were reduced to 10 men when James Curtis earned a second yellow.

James Jennings buried the free-kick from 30 yards to cap the victory.
