York 3-0 Burton

York eased their way past Burton Albion for their first win in three games.

The Minstermen went ahead through Jason Walker's penalty after Alex Rodman had been felled by Marcus Holness.

Patrick McLaughlin converted Walker's corner to make it 2-0, before Billy Kee's effort forced a fine save out of City keeper Michael Ingham.

Chris Smith then produced a stunning double block on the line from Kee and Holness, and Matty Blair fired in from distance to seals the hosts' victory.

York City manager Gary Mills told BBC Radio York:

"I think the players have been incredible over the Christmas period.

"Although we've only picked up four points out of the nine, I think performance-wise it's been excellent.

"The two clean sheets in the last two games have enabled us to go on and pick up points.

"I thought we were excellent, I really did, and I'm just pleased for everybody."

Burton manager Gary Rowett told BBC Radio Derby:

"We started poorly. The fact Zander Diamond was ill this morning disrupted our preparation a little bit.

"We had a new central defensive pairing in there and we gave them an opportunity to get a goal early on.

"The disappointing thing for me was the way we started. There wasn't the intensity and urgency that we had shown in the last two home games, so from that point of view, it was disappointing.

"Sometimes we have a mentality away from home that means we occasionally don't do the things we do at home.

"That's three goals we've conceded again, but they're a honest group of lads and they've not done that on purpose."
